About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

With finishing times ranging from 25 to 70 hours, the Namib Race is an epic challenge. Crossing some of the highest dunes in the world – up to 1,000 feet high – the course is possible to run, but 80 percent of competitors mix in at least some walking. So if you want to experience the magic of the Namib Desert with its red sand and lunar landscapes, don’t let the distance of this race scare you off. Take the leap and immerse yourself in a week of desert foot travel. One way or another, you’ll make it to the end!

“What draws us into the desert is the search for something intimate in the remote.”

- Edward Abbey

With sapphire blue waves crashing into a desert shore along the Skeleton Coast and 280 million year old trees standing petrified in Deadvlei, the Namib Desert seems to defy reality in its beauty. On the off-chance you’re ready to escape the desert after a week there, you can go on safari in greener Northern Namibia or head to South Africa for a truly lush experience on the Garden Route.
