WHY LEARN HERE?

Alaska is the perfect place to boost your mountaineering skills and prepare for a big expedition. In addition to spectacular scenery, Alaska has a well-developed guide network that caters to all experience levels. For those new to mountaineering, you can take an introductory course that will teach you the basics of glacier travel, crevasse rescue, self-arrest techniques, and more. For experienced mountaineers, you can add on new techniques – like ski mountaineering and sled travel – or refine existing skills by climbing alongside experts, who can provide helpful suggestions and critiques.

The Alaska Range is a special place. The grandeur of the mountains and glaciers cannot be explained, it must be witnessed in person.

- Nick D'Alessio

One of the main reasons people take a mountaineering course in Alaska is to prepare for Denali (20,310 ft), the highest mountain in North America. While you can find courses tailored to Denali in the Cascades, Rockies, and other regions as well, learning in the same region as your core objective has its benefits. Not only will you gain a better sense of weather and avalanche conditions in the area, but you’ll also get to know local guides and climbers who know Denali and the surrounding mountains better than anyone else. While getting up to Alaska may be a task, and reaching the mountains often requires a ski-equipped plane, the adventure will be one you’ll never forget.
