About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

Home to over 2,200 Buddhist temples, Bagan is a great place to get lost, as every road you turn down brings you to another archeological wonder. The Bagan Temple Marathon (42K, 21K, or 10K) course winds through some of these ancient pagodas on a mix of dusty trails and asphalt. The only downside is that it is only possible to enter as part of a tour package.

“As we run, we become.”

- Amby Burfoot

The best way to explore Bagan is on a rented e-bike, which is basically an electric moped. With cheap prices and no license requirement, there’s no reason not to give them a try! Whatever you do in Bagan, make sure you’re up and about for sunset each day. There are tons of ‘guides’ around who will take you to their favorite sunset spots, but my favorite was Nann Myint Viewing Tower, where you can get a 360° view of the magic.
