About the Mountain

WHY SKI HERE?

Don’t expect to ski Aspen Snowmass in a weekend. It’s a collection of four ski resorts – Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass – each warranting at least a full day of riding. Snowmass has the accolade of being bigger than the other three resorts put together, while Aspen Highlands is known for having the most challenging terrain.

“Kindness is like snow. It beautifies everything it covers.”

- Kahlil Gibran

If you want to go beyond the gondolas into new terrain, check out the Grand Traverse, a point-to-point backcountry race from Crested Butte to Aspen in March. Over 40 miles, racers climb 6,800 vertical feet and descend over 8,200 feet, so you’d better have some experience and endurance before signing up. Luckily for newbies, the race organizers offer skimo lessons and training races to get you going.
