About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

Only in Iceland can you run through lava fields and glacial rivers, pass by mud pools and geysers, and then catch glimpses of the northern lights at night. Pair this otherworldly landscape with 6 days of self-reliant running in the wilderness – like in the Fire and Ice Ultra – and you have a ‘bucket list’ worthy adventure. Not to mention, self-sufficiency takes on a whole new meaning when you have to plan for cold, wet, unpredictable conditions.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”

- Helen Keller

Iceland isn’t a large country, but it’s absolutely packed with natural beauty! Of course you’ll want to check out the Blue Lagoon and probably every other hot spring you can find after the race, but you may also want to go ice your legs in a glacial lake, like Jökulsárlón, or in the seas just off Diamond Beach, where chunks of ice bedazzle the black sand shoreline. There are many ways to experience Iceland while visiting the country, such as trekking to see volcanoes, self-driving to geysers and bubbling mud pots, and traversing glaciers on a rope team. Some of the most popular activities are hiking and rafting. The terrain is rugged and unpredictable, and the scenery is unlike any other.
