About the Mountain

WHY SKI HERE?

No trip to Chamonix is complete without a trip up to Aiguille du Midi (12,600 ft), the highest point on Mont Blanc that’s reachable by cable car. From Aiguille du Midi, the adventure opportunities are endless. You can make a ski descent of Vallee Blanche, ski tour to Point Helbronner, practice your technical climbing on a nearby peak, or continue to Courmayeur in Italy (as long as you’ve got your passport in hand).

“Sitting at the foot of the majestic Mont Blanc, this resort appeals to the thrill seeker and is part of the Ski Pass Mont Blanc ski area.”

- Laurence Rapp

If you have the skill set to handle a variety of conditions and terrain, Vallee Blanche is one of the most epic ski runs in the world. Spanning 10 miles over the Mer de Glace, a great glacier on the slopes of Mont Blanc, it’s worth taking a guide for peace of mind. Besides having local insight into the route and weather, you won’t risk inadvertently falling into a crevasse, which can happen if you aren’t trained in glacier travel.
