About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

The Hardrock 100 Endurance Run is the ultimate ultramarathon. With +/-33,000 feet of elevation and a highpoint over 14,000 feet, the Hardrock 100 has earned its place among the toughest 100-milers in the country. It is also one of the most scenic, passing through famed Colorado mountain towns, like Telluride and Ouray. Along the course, you’ll experience the beauty of the San Juan mountains, while hopefully escaping the worst of its storms.

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”

- Anais Nin

Unlucky runners have been known to hide out in caves while lightning storms pass, and even more unlucky runners have been struck (though one went on to finish in third place afterwards). Temperatures can be just as volatile, dropping into the single digits at night, even after blazing hot days. If you plan on spending time in Colorado before or after the race – which you should – the best way to do it is via camper van. There are too many diverse regions of Colorado to stay parked in one place, and bringing your own bed buys you freedom from resort town pricing.
