About the Mountain

WHY SKI HERE?

It’s only natural that the mighty Himalayas would be home to the world’s highest skiable gondola. At 13,750 feet, the Gulmarg Gondola will take you to unreal views of the surrounding Kashmir Valley. From there, you can drop into steep, powdery terrain or take the lift back down, if your ski skills aren’t up to the task.

“Tell people you’re going skiing in India, and it’s safe to say you’ll get more than a few raised eyebrows.”

- James Mitchell

If you have an off-day from skiing in Gulmarg, it’s worth trekking over to Alpather Lake (13,750 ft), known as the ‘hidden gem of Kashmir.’ Resembling Canada’s Lake Louise with its turquoise waters, Alpather Lake is reachable via an 8-mile hike from Gulmarg or by gondola.
