About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

The famed Leadville Trail 100 is an out-and-back course run along the Colorado Trail, passing twice by the beautiful Rocky Mountain vistas of Hope Pass (12,600 ft). With +/-15,500 feet of elevation, serious hill training is in order if you want to be among the top half of runners that finishers within the 30-hour time limit.

“Ability is what you are capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”

- Lou Holtz

As part of the “Western Slam” – 4 brutally tough 100-mile ultras in the Western US – the Leadville Trail 100 is at the top of every masochistic ultrarunner’s bucket list. So get ready for a lottery entry process that’s almost as painful as the race if you want to run it. There’s also guaranteed spots available through qualifying races, training camps, and charity programs.
