About the Mountain

WHY SKI HERE?

Bigger than Vail with a fraction of the skiers, Big Sky is a paradise for adventurous skiers. Take the Lone Peak tram (11,150 feet) for panoramic views and some of the most challenging terrain around. Then hop on a snowmobile for a tour of nearby Yellowstone National Park, before heading back to your slope-side cabin for some hot tub time.

“For other states I have admiration, respect, recognition, even some affection. But with Montana it is love.”

- John Steinbeck

Big Sky is close enough to Jackson Hole that you can take a road trip from one to the other if the weather allows it. Since both are a bit expensive to reach on their own, this can be a good way to ski diverse terrain without much additional overhead. The ideal way is to fly into Bozeman and out of Jackson Hole – or vice versa – to maximize time on the slopes. But you’d better get a 4×4 SUV rental in that case, so that only a major storm will foil your plans.
