About the Route

The Naukluft Hiking Trail is an 8-day adventure through the Namib Naukluft National Park. Home to the natural wonders of Sossusvlei and Sesriem, the park also reaches into the Naukluft Mountains, where you can find a number of excellent hikes. Beyond taking on the whole 75-mile loop, you can coordinate a 4-day point-to-point hike or do the single-day Olive (6 miles) or Waterkloof (10 miles) trails.

“The test of an adventure is that when you’re in the middle of it say to yourself, ‘Oh, now I’ve got myself into an awful mess.'”

- Thornton Wilder

While completing the Naukluft Hiking Trail isn’t easy, it comes with the benefit of feeling intimately familiar with one of the most unique landscapes on the planet. Upon visiting Sossusvlei and Sesriem after, you’ll undoubtedly have a greater appreciation for these magnificent places. Climbing to the top of some of the highest red dunes in Namibia will seem easy after the challenge, even while the view from the top will be all the more rewarding. Be sure to see the petrified trees of Deadvlei, as well. You’ll think you’ve stepped into a painting by Salvador Dali, minus the melting clocks.
