About the Mountain

WHY SKI HERE?

You don’t often get ocean views on ski slopes, but you do at Mt. Hutt. With the beautiful Pacific off to the east, the heart of the Southern Alps to the west, and near treeless slopes, you’ll have unreal views everywhere you go on the mountain, especially at the summit.

“I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright.”

- Henry David Thoreau

The weather on Mt. Hutt can be unpredictable with strong, cold southerly winds often closing down lifts. But the weather in the rest of New Zealand is great for hiking if you don’t mind it a bit crisp. With fewer crowds and snow-capped mountains, many tourists even prefer it to the warmer seasons.
