About the Region

WHY SKI HERE?

Norway is one of a few places in the world where you can ski from snowy peaks down to the Arctic Ocean shore. You can even take a sailing trip through Norwegian fjords to reach diverse, untouched backcountry terrain before surfing arctic waves at Unstad Surf Camp. While there are many incredible places to ski in Norway, some of the best ski touring is in Lofoten, using Svolvær as a base.

“Located far north of the Arctic Circle, Lofoten is a place where mother nature reminds you who's in charge.”

- David Nikel

Lofoten is known for having steep, rugged mountains and unrivaled views. One of the best runs in this region is Store Trolltind (4,000 ft), which you can only access by boat. If you want to explore more than one ski region in Norway during your trip, other noteworthy regions are the Lyngen Alps, Senja Island, and Jotunheimen. Senja Island is best suited to a sail and ski trip, while Jotunheimen is great for a multi-day hut-to-hut adventure.
