About the Route

WHY TREK IT?

The Otter Trail is a mainstay of the Garden Route, crossing from Storms River Mouth to Nature’s Valley through the Tsitsikamma National Park. Despite being a coastal path, it includes a decent amount of elevation change as you climb up through Afromontane forests to high plateaus and back down again.

“When you walk in the open, the sea can be deafening at times.”

- Johann Groenewald

The Otter Trail is best known for its impeccable ocean views and lush vegetation. As a bonus, when you’re done, there are plenty more highlights of the Garden Route to explore. Traveler favorites include Mossel Bay, Hermanus, and Knysna. You can also get in some top-notch wine tasting at Stellenbosch, near Cape Town if you have the time.
