About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

The Rinjani 100 course is a winding tour of Lombok’s highest peaks, reaching a high point at the summit of Mount Rinjani (12,200 ft). With over 40,500 feet of cumulative elevation gain and a 40-hour cutoff, the Rinjani 100 is one of the toughest ultras out there, and also one of the most beautiful.

“One thing about racing is that it hurts. You better accept that from the beginning or you’re not going anywhere.”

- Bob Kennedy

Besides the elevation, the Rinjani 100 is known for having tough terrain that makes the climbs even more challenging. You’ll cross gnarled exposed roots, have your feet sink into loose scree, and scramble over piles of rocks as you make your way into thinner and thinner air. Especially on loose volcanic ash, it can feel like every step forward takes you a step back. But the crater views at the summit are more than worth it, especially they’ll signal the start of a long, wonderful descent.
