WHY SKI HERE?

It’s worth visiting Rosa Khutor if only to see what can be done when a big budget is directed towards developing a new ski area. The region of Krasnaya Polyana had a fraction of the ski amenities it has today before preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics there got underway. Then it was transformed into a veritable ski heaven, complete with stunning views, skiing for all levels, charming villages, snow tubing, and even a Siberian husky center, where you can go dog sledding and meet the pups.

“As in the Alps, the resort takes a laissez-faire approach to marking trails. Only a handful had designated names, which weren’t helpful anyway, unless you read Cyrillic.”

- Andy Isaacson

Walking along the Mzymta Embankment at the end of your ski day in Rosa Khutor with boutique stores and restaurants lining the riverside, you’ll feel like you’re in Chamonix. You might feel that way on the slopes too, considering that Compagnie des Alpes – the company that runs Chamonix’s largest and most popular resort – also owns Rosa Khutor. Add in excellent heli-skiing and heli-accessed ski touring and you have an epic ski destination waiting to be explored.
