About the Route

WHY TREK IT?

The Skyline Trail is located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, in Jasper National Park. It’s a well-marked and well-maintained trail that will make you appreciate Canada’s prioritization of making the great outdoors accessible, in a sustainable way. Getting permits for the hike is a challenge, but that’s to preserve the beautiful landscape and ensure those who put in the advance planning can experience it without being overrun by crowds.

“Real freedom lies in wildness, not in civilization.”

- Charles Lindbergh

True to its name, most of the Skyline Trail is located above the treeline. So you’ll enjoy abundant panoramic vistas out to snowcapped peaks and glacial lakes. While the elevation profile of the route is fairly tame, it can be windy along the ridgeline, and weather conditions can change quickly. Most hikers budget time for bad weather days, just in case. With six cozy campsites available en route, there are plenty of options if you need to hole up for the day. It’d be a shame to miss the views on even a part of this scenic hike.
