About the Mountain

WHY SKI HERE?

Home to the highest observation deck in the Alps (12,750 ft) with views of France, Italy, and Switzerland, along with 14 sparkling glaciers, Zermatt is world-renowned for its beauty. The iconic Matterhorn can be seen from almost every slope and it forms a dramatic backdrop for Zermatt village, making it feel as if you’ve stepped into a fairytale.

“Switzerland is a small, steep country, much more up and down than sideways.”

- Ernest Hemingway

Even the journey to Zermatt has spectacular views. The 3.5-hour Glacier Express from Zurich may be the ‘slowest express train in the world,’ but you’ll be happy for the relaxed pace when you’re passing by one Alpine vista and charming town after another. If you’re up for another train ride after you arrive, Zermatt enthusiasts say the best views around are in Gornergrat, a 30 minute trip from Zermatt.
