About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

Did you know that you can run a marathon on Everest? Each year, the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon starts at Everest Base Camp (17,600 ft) and runs all the way down to Namche Bazaar (11,250 ft). But don’t be fooled by the major elevation loss. There are some serious climbs too and it’s still insanely tough to put one foot in front of the other at that altitude.

“People do not decide to become extraordinary. They decide to accomplish extraordinary things.”

- Sir Edmund Hillary

If you trek to Everest Base Camp, don’t miss climbing the side peak Kala Patthar. Not only will you gain the experience of standing on a +18,000 ft summit, but you’ll get to enjoy an incredible view of the Himalayas if the weather is good. Also, make sure you travel with an eco-conscious your provider and consider supporting an EBC clean-up project. Last year, +10,000 tons of trash were removed! Needless to say, there’s still a lot left.
