About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

The Tor des Geants takes place in majestic Aosta Valley. It’s a race of epic proportions with a cutoff time of 150 hours. Less than 60 percent of runners make it the whole way, which is saying something considering how crazy you need to be to sign up. It’s considered one of the toughest endurance events in the world, for good reason. But at least it’s supported with 43 aid stations and 7 ‘life bases’, which are more substantial refreshment points.

“If it felt good, you didn't push hard enough. It's supposed to hurt like hell.”

- Dean Karnazes

Starting and finishing in Courmayeur, the course traverses jagged Alpine terrain through valleys to snowy peaks. If you dare to take on this epic adventure, you’ll cross 25 high mountain passes, pass by 30 alpine lakes, and cover 78,500 feet of elevation gain, more than double that of the prestigious UTMB. Much of the terrain is also more technical than the UTMB and other famous mountain ultras, making for an extreme adventure that you’ll remember for a lifetime should you dare to take on the challenge.
