About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

Don’t be shocked when you see horses at the start line for the Vermont 100. It remains the only ultra in the US with a concurrent horse race, though the horses start later and run a slightly different path where there’s highly technical trails. With +/-17,000 feet of elevation, you might be tempted to catch a ride. But hang in there through the relentless rolling green hills and you’ll have completed one of the most prestigious ultramarathons in the US.

“When you are 99 miles into a 100-mile running race, your brain is not the same brain you started with”

- Paul Huddle

If you want to experience Vermont in all its glory post-race, take a road trip to Burlington, Montpelier, and Stowe. Besides picturesque towns and shaded hiking trails, you can check out weekend farmer’s markets, go river tubing or rafting, and taste ice cream from the source at Ben & Jerry’s.
