About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

The Vietnam Mountain Marathon is a ‘bucket list’ race for almost any trail runner planning races in Asia. Based in Sapa, a 6 hour journey from Hanoi, the race is set amid terraced rice paddies and enchanting villages. The 100 km race features 13,000 ft of elevation, so don’t let the course’s popularity and beauty fool you into thinking it will be easy. If you haven’t had enough of the Hoang Lien Son mountains after the race, there are plenty of hiking opportunities in the region, including to visit remote hill tribe villages.

“The harder the hill, the steeper the climb, the better the view from the finishing line.”

- Paul Newman

After returning to Hanoi post-race, many runners will head to Ha Long Bay for a tour of its 1,600 limestone islands. But if you dare to be different, head to Cat Ba Island instead. There, you can rock climb, kayak, and SUP without the overwhelming crowds and with the same beautiful islands as a backdrop. Or, for an off-beat and unforgettable adventure, you can visit Mui Ne, a fishing village in the Southeast of Vietnam. There you’ll find pristine sand dunes perfect for sandboarding and a coastline dotted with kite boarders.
