About the Race

WHY RUN IT?

Few experiences can match waking up in your tent in Antarctica to AC/DC blasting, knowing it’s time to take on 26.2 miles. Unlike other Antarctic races, competitors in the White Continent Marathon fly into King George Island and camp overnight before the race. So there’s no sea sickness or fear of the Drake Passage to contend with. You can save all you energy for the race and penguin watching.

“Through endurance we conquer.”

- Ernest H. Shackleton

King George Island is home to so many research bases, it makes you feel like you’re going through the World Showcase at Disney. Russia, China, the US, Chile, and Uruguay all have staff there, each operating on their own time zones, which must make for a good New Years’ celebration.
